Environmentally & Socially Conscious

At Mersey Seafoods, Stewardship is one of our core values and guides everything that we do. Whether it’s workplace safety, product quality, the sustainability of our resources or operations we do the right things for the right reasons and make principle-based decisions.

Marine Stewardship Council (MSC)

Mersey Seafoods is committed to the principles of responsible fishing and the long-term sustainability of Canada’s seafood resources.

Our primary fisheries – Atlantic Sea Scallops and Coldwater Shrimp have been certified by the Marine Stewardship Council as sustainable.

The Marine Stewardship Council is a global nonprofit organization that works to end overfishing around the world. Through their work with scientists, fisheries, industry experts and other stakeholders, MSC strives to improve the way the ocean is fished through the MSC Fisheries Standards and Chain of Custody Standard. The MSC program helps to incentivize sustainable fishing practices globally.

Brand Reputation Compliance Global Standards (BRCGS)

Mersey’s commitment to food safety, quality and legality of products is further reinforced through participation in the BRCGS certification process.

BRCGS is a globally recognized certification program that sets out standards for food safety, quality, and operational criteria across various industries providing a framework for companies to establish and maintain robust systems ensuring the safety, quality, and legality of their products.

Achieving BRCGS certification involves a thorough auditing process conducted by accredited third-party certification bodies with companies having to demonstrate compliance with specific BRCGS standards relevant to their industry.
